I Am No Bob Dylan, But Who Is?

By Wayne Weiner, D.Ed.

I recently watched Bob Dylan: movie a deeply moving chronicling the early career of a man who changed music forever. Dylan’s poetic lyrics, unapologetic voice, and raw authenticity have left an indelible mark on generations. Through his songs, he captured the essence of hope, humanity, and resilience—qualities that folk music once stood for so powerfully.

As I watched the film, I wondered if I, too, could tap into even a fraction of that spirit. Could I write a song that speaks to the soul as Dylan and his contemporaries did? Could I string together words that hold the same weight as his timeless messages?

Folk music has always been a mirror to the human condition, with artists like Joan Baez, Pete Seeger, and Woody Guthrie standing alongside Dylan as voices of their time. Guthrie’s This Land Is Your Land became a rallying cry for unity, while Baez’s angelic voice gave power to the civil rights movement. Seeger reminded us that music can be a tool for change, not just entertainment.

Inspired by their courage and creativity, I decided to give songwriting a shot. Spoiler alert: I am no Bob Dylan. But who is? The process made me realize that the act of trying—of putting your thoughts into words and words into music—is an act of hope in itself. And maybe that’s what matters most.

If you’ve ever found yourself inspired by these legends, or if you simply want to explore the human spirit through words and music, I invite you to join me at https://drweinerinsights.com. Together, we can reflect on what makes life meaningful and perhaps even uncover the poet within ourselves.

In the words of Dylan himself:
“The times they are a-changin’.”
Let’s embrace the change—and maybe even write a few verses about it. https://drweinerinsights.com
